During the Board of Corrections portion of the May 21 meeting, the corrections director presented operational needs and vendor recommendations and the board approved several motions to address immediate facility and health care needs.
The director requested a formal service agreement for rooftop HVAC units at $9,600 annually, describing twice‑yearly inspections: “they're gonna do 2 main inspections a year. Basically, they'll come in in the spring, get it up up and going, and check all the roof units, and then do it again in the in the fall,” and the board approved the agreement and authorized the chair to sign.
The director also described the need to replace inmate mattresses in batches of 50, recommending Charmtex as the preferred supplier after product comparisons. Commissioners approved using Charmtex as the source and performing replacements in groups of 50 funded from inmate welfare; the director said the plan would likely require roughly $40,000 over time to replace the entire inventory in stages.
After an executive session, the board approved a motion to pursue a plan to provide on‑site inmate medical care. Commissioners emphasized approval was for the plan; contract specifics and vendor terms were not finalized in open session.
Next steps: Corrections leadership will finalize service‑agreement paperwork, proceed with phased mattress purchases from the approved vendor as funds permit, and advance the on‑site medical care plan for subsequent procurement steps.
