Public commenter urges county to oppose NRD building, asks about county role in NRD budget approvals

During the public participation portion of the meeting, Matt McGuire of PO Box 143, Kennesaw, addressed the board to voice concerns about a proposed Central Platte NRD office building and to ask whether the county approves any portion of the NRD budget.
McGuire said he plans to pursue legal action to stop the building and said he believed zoning and process concerns justified intervention. "They snuck the vote in right before the July 8 deadline," he said, and said he has consulted the Nebraska attorney general and intends to file for an injunction.
Commissioners replied that the Central Platte NRD is an elected, multi-county entity that covers about 15 counties and that the Hall County board does not approve NRD budgets or have jurisdiction over their decisions. One commissioner said the NRD budget may include grants and federal funds and suggested McGuire attend the NRD budget hearing on Thursday for more detailed information.
The board encouraged Mr. McGuire to participate in the NRD hearing and noted their limited authority over NRD affairs.
