Hall County declares transit van surplus, plans auction and possible transfer of spare van to Grand Island

Hall County commissioners declared a 2009 Chevy transit van (vehicle No. 5) surplus and authorized its sale at public auction.
The board noted the vehicle had “clunked out” and discussed auction logistics, including obtaining a clean or mutilated title as required for sale. Commissioners also said one of two ARRA-era transit vans purchased in 2010–2012 is likely unnecessary for county use and that staff will pursue transferring that van to the city of Grand Island, subject to state and federal rules about proceeds from the sale of federally funded vehicles.
"The vehicle does run. It's just not suitable for what we're looking to use it for," a commissioner said when proposing public auction. The motion to declare the vehicle surplus and to sell it at auction carried with recorded votes.
Commissioners cautioned that proceeds from selling federally funded vehicles may need to go to state or federal agencies rather than remain with the county and noted that transferring a van to the city could be the best practical outcome.
Staff will arrange auction logistics, clear or obtain the proper title paperwork and return with sale results and any required federal/state compliance steps.
