Hall County authorizes up to $45,000 in ARPA funds for weed department pickup

The Hall County Board voted to authorize the weed superintendent to purchase a new spray pickup not to exceed $45,000, to be paid from ARPA funds.
Commissioners said the weed department is a small, single-person operation that historically has not had capital outlay in its budget, and that replacing the aging vehicle could be a 15–20 year solution. Board discussion favored buying locally from on-the-lot inventory (Anderson’s or Dinsdale’s) and setting a price cap to allow staff to secure an available vehicle rather than special-ordering one.
"I'd make a motion that we authorize the weed superintendent to purchase a new spray pickup, not to exceed $45,000 from a local vendor being paid out of ARPA funds," a commissioner said; the motion was seconded and carried with all present voting yes.
The board directed staff to surplus the replaced pickup or transfer it to another department if another department wishes to take it. Commissioners noted that using ARPA funds avoids additional county budgeting and reduces future paperwork.
