Commissioners and vendor representatives discussed horsepower and transmission differences and said a subgroup would review the specifications.
The board also opened two trailer bids: a 2025 Travis Ariel aluminum bottom-dump trailer (46-foot, triple axle) from Crossroads for $82,500 FOB York, and a 2026 Arway 48 tri-axle trailer from RDO Truck Centers for $73,070.
Security and camera system bids showed substantial variance. Bids and totals announced at the meeting included Midwest Alarm Systems at $161,337.86; Midwest Security Systems with a standard package at $75,530 (high-resolution option $95,760) plus annual support of $1,980; SEI with video equipment $82,775.59 and cabling $20,988.08 (grand total presented around $103,063.67); STS at about $105,094; Applied Connective at $100,989.57; Kidwell base bid $270,625; and Sorin Group at $66,385. Commissioners told staff to review the differing equipment, resolution, cabling, and support options before recommending a purchase.
Votes and routine business: earlier in the meeting the board approved the Dec. 10, 2024 minutes and adopted the Dec. 23 agenda by roll call, and later approved payroll and vendor claims. Those procedural motions were recorded and passed by affirmative roll-call votes during the session.
Why it matters: The purchases would affect county fleet capability and surveillance infrastructure and involve significant expenditure variance across bidders. The board’s decision to send detailed specs to committees indicates staff-level review before any contract awards.
