Bradshaw resident urges York County commissioners to note Lancaster County solar vote, asks to move meeting

Willard Peterson, a Bradshaw resident, urged the York County Board of Commissioners to take notice of a large solar project moving through Lancaster County and asked the board to consider rescheduling so he can attend a Jan. 7 vote in Lincoln.
Peterson said he attended Lancaster County planning and zoning meetings where board members voted 6-0 to forward a roughly 2,500-acre solar farm proposal to the county commissioners for a final decision. He told the York County board that prior meetings on the Lancaster project had been contentious and that he was told by contacts “by good authority that the county commissioners in Lancaster County are gonna pass that. Peterson also said Lancaster County has posted related public correspondence online and described that some earlier meetings became heated: “a lot of those other meetings got really, really contentious to the point that some people were escorted out,” he said. He asked whether York County could move its meeting time so he could attend the Lancaster County commissioners’ meeting in Lincoln on Jan. 7 at 9:00 a.m.
Chair responded by thanking Peterson for his comment and moved on to other agenda items; the board did not take immediate action on the scheduling request during the meeting.
Why it matters: Large utility-scale solar proposals can raise land-use and visual-impact concerns for neighboring residents and local officials. Peterson’s request flagged a regional meeting overlap and asked York County to consider whether its schedule should accommodate residents who want to follow nearby county decisions. The York County board did not announce any change of meeting time at the Dec. 23 session.
What’s next: Peterson identified the Lancaster County meeting date and said he planned to attend. The York County board recessed later in the meeting to review procurement bids; no follow-up decision about moving the Jan. meeting was recorded.
