A city committee voted to recommend that the full council approve bidding on a prioritized package of 2025–26 street, drainage and sidewalk projects, members said at a meeting where engineers and street staff reviewed estimates and scopes.
The committee’s chair said the action requested was to “push this to the council” so the projects could move to the bidding phase. Dale, a representative of Infrastructure Solutions, told members engineering is largely complete and staff can assemble bid documents “soon” so the city can get contractors under contract once council approval is obtained.
The packet discussed by the committee listed several major items and engineer estimates: a retaining wall on the north side of Cemetery Hill to stabilize falling rock, reconstruction of Dogtown Road from 3rd to 9th Street, Brookfield Terrace (engineer estimate about $588,000), and a sidewalk repair/rebuild segment on 1st Street (engineer estimate about $99,000). Committee members also discussed Lock Street alley stabilization, pavement additions behind the bank, the animal shelter driveway paving and other localized base repairs and alley work.
Committee members emphasized prioritizing drainage work where standing water and yard flooding have been repeatedly reported. Buddy Glenn, the city’s street superintendent, described recent base repairs and sweeper operations and noted on-street parking can prevent effective sweeping, which in turn can worsen drainage during heavy rain.
A motion to forward the prioritized 2025–26 projects to the full council and to allow staff to go to bid passed on a roll call in which members named in the record — Smith, Brashears and Omar — recorded “Yes.” The committee chair thanked consultants for preparing the packet and noted final bid documents will be provided to council for approval.
Next steps: staff will finalize plans and bid documents and place the package on the full council agenda for formal authorization to advertise for construction bids.
