Pflugerville council fills PCDC seats; candidates emphasize jobs, small-business retention

The Pflugerville City Council on Tuesday reappointed an incumbent and appointed three community members to the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) after a series of candidate presentations and council tallies.
PCDC reappointment Dorel White, the board chair, was reappointed to a PCDC seat following remarks about the board’s recent transition and a focus on continuing business recruitment and retail growth. "The number one item is bringing in the new executive, getting things organized and going in the right direction," White said, describing continuity and a continued focus on seeking business opportunities.
Two new community appointees, Dujuana "DJ" Rosada and Oscar Mitchell, were also approved. Rosada, founder of the local food company SoulPOP, told the council she has had to leave Pflugerville for larger manufacturing space in the past and urged the PCDC to focus on availability of small industrial spaces. "If you’re a small business like me, I need a 5,000 square feet of industrial space... That sweet spot really is hard to find in Pflugerville," she said, arguing that incentivized development should demonstrably benefit local residents and local hiring.
Oscar Mitchell, who emphasized entrepreneurship and youth startup programming, urged incubator-style facilities and continued outreach to schools to grow local businesses.
Council discussion also touched on candidate disclosures. Jennifer Purify (candidate) said she works in real estate investment and disclosed that potential overlap with city policies warranted transparency; she framed that disclosure as a way to avoid perceived conflicts rather than a disqualifier.
By motion the council formalized reappointment of the sitting council appointee to Place 3 and appointed Dorel White, Dujuana Rosada and Oscar Mitchell to the PCDC seats identified in the agenda; the motions carried by council vote.
Next steps: appointees will coordinate with the PCDC executive director for onboarding and assignment of specific seat placements. The council noted appointees remain eligible for other openings on future boards and commissions.
