Commissioner Jane Richardson moved that the board chair, with assistance from the county attorney, negotiate terms and bring back a proposed agreement for board approval on July 16. The motion passed with five votes in favor and two opposed.
Two commissioners voiced objections not to the contractor but to a design choice: Commissioner Gary (recorded voice) said he supports Chief Construction but opposes an attached‑building design and prefers a standalone courthouse. Commissioner Karen echoed concerns about a non‑attached option. The vote authorized negotiation and contract drafting; the board will review the negotiated agreement at a future meeting.
Next steps: The chair and the county attorney will negotiate the agreement with Chief Construction and return a proposed contract for public review and a scheduled vote on July 16.
