Rising Sun reintroduces West Nottingham Academy annexation; town cites MDE grant for water line design

Summary
The Mayor and Board accepted into the record a resolution to reintroduce the West Nottingham Academy annexation and noted an application to MDE for a grant to design a water line; the action starts a statutory 45‑day process rather than final approval.
The Mayor and Board of Commissioners accepted into the record a resolution reintroducing the annexation of West Nottingham Academy and noted the town has applied for an MDE grant to fund a water line design that would link the property to municipal service.
Town Administrator Cal said the board was not voting to adopt the annexation at the meeting but to keep the resolution active in order to begin the normal 45‑day review. "So it's again, you're not you're not voting to adopt the resolution. You're just accepting it into the record, and then that'll start the normal, 45 day process," Cal said.
Cal told the board the town had applied for state funding through MDE to pay for the water line down to West Nottingham Academy and had been encouraged to move forward with design work; he added the approval process for the grant could take about a year and a half. The resolution and related documents are posted on the town website, Cal said.
A motion to approve the consent agenda, which included the reintroduction of the annexation resolution, was made and seconded and the Mayor called for a voice vote. Members responded in the affirmative and the chair declared the motion approved.
Because the board only accepted the resolution into the record, no final annexation decision or zoning change occurred at the meeting. The MDE grant application and the 45‑day review are next procedural steps; the town said it would continue follow‑up discussions with state officials while the design work proceeds.
