Alexander Hamilton School celebrated as a National Blue Ribbon School

Alexander Hamilton School was celebrated by the Glen Rock Board of Education after being named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School.

Superintendent Dr. Charleston opened the recognition, praising the school’s application team and thanking staff and directors who supported the nomination. "We were notified in January that we had met the criteria to be a Blue Ribbon school," the superintendent said, describing a multi-step review by the New Jersey Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Education.

Mrs. Gomez addressed the board and highlighted the school’s focus on academics and community: "This blue ribbon is for all of us and I couldn't be happier and prouder to celebrate it with you," she said. She emphasized the school's culture of care, collaboration among staff and a sense of belonging for students.

Student leaders who attended the meeting described how schoolwide programs and peer support shaped learning. Wyatt Rowe, introduced himself as the Alexander Hamilton fifth‑grade mayor and said the award reflected teamwork and persistence: "I'm very glad I'm very grateful that our students and our teachers have been working very hard in order to win this award." Other fifth graders noted programs such as multicultural celebrations and week‑long respect initiatives as contributors to the school's success.

Why it matters: The Blue Ribbon designation is awarded for overall academic excellence and for demonstrating progress in closing achievement gaps. Board members framed Hamilton’s recognition as evidence of districtwide strengths in curriculum and instruction and singled out staff, students and families for the accomplishment.
