Students honored for anti‑bullying posters; superintendent showcases classroom AI reading coach

At the Feb. 11 meeting Christy Edelson, coordinator for guidance services, led an awards ceremony recognizing winners of the third annual anti‑bullying poster contest. Students across grade levels received framed posters, certificates and their prize choice (options included a Chromebook, tablet, AirPods or a scientific calculator). The winning poster from the Cecil County School of Technology will be displayed at schools across the district.
Earlier in the meeting Superintendent Dr. Lawson showed a short classroom demonstration of a program called Reading Coach. He introduced a sixth‑grade student, Bridget, who read a short passage into a Chromebook while the software analyzed her fluency and returned a score (Dr. Lawson cited an example score of 95). Dr. Lawson said the district is using the tool to measure and encourage reading fluency in small‑group and classroom settings and described teacher uses and student engagement.
Dr. Lawson and Ms. Edelson thanked students, parents and school principals who joined the recognition at the boardroom front.
