Dr. Lawson introduced a construction update at the Feb. 11 board meeting and credited Dr. Boyer (executive director for facilities) and Mr. Sempers (director of administrative services) for the materials.
The presentation included renderings and photos of the new Northeast Middle‑High School, with an expected opening on July 1, 2027. The slides described building zones (middle school wing, high school wing, auditorium with a balcony that seats about 1,000, separate cafeterias served by a single kitchen, and bus loop/roadway configurations) and noted the project’s budgetary status as approximately $180.59 million as shown in the district materials.
Facilities staff also described near‑term work: a roof and air‑conditioning project at Elkton Middle School to service the guidance area and a boiler and roof replacement at the administrative services building (the former School of Technology near Bayview Elementary). Cecil Manor Elementary was singled out for a full heating and air‑conditioning replacement estimated at more than $4 million.
Dr. Lawson told the board that construction has been weather‑impacted in places but that work is progressing and that the district expects to staff the new building by moving cohorts (for example, seventh graders at the middle school feeding into the new ninth‑grade high‑school wing).
