Committee approves furniture for new Rogers High, moves to ask City Council to consider keeping the NACTEC building; several routine items passed

Furniture award (5.3): Ms. Bolen (S4) moved the furniture award motion and said the process had been involved, with samples reviewed and vendor selections made. She said the recommended student chair choice saves ‘‘$58,000’’ and that the total FF&E budget presented to the committee is $1,419,430.50. Committee members asked about enrollment projections, grant funding splits, and the schedule for installation; administration confirmed RIDE (Rhode Island Department of Education) must also review and approve the FF&E as part of the project MOA. The motion carried following discussion.
NACTEC letter (5.5): The board voted to transmit a formal letter to the Newport City Council requesting support to retain the NACTEC building rather than demolish it. Discussion covered possible use of demolition funds and coordination with the School Building Committee and contractor Gilbane to produce cost estimates; the board instructed staff to include references to available demolition funds in the communication.
Other actions: The committee approved the subcommittee appointments (5.1) and accepted the consent agenda. The committee also voted to continue consideration of policy 4450 (Title IX harassment and retaliation) to await additional guidance from RIDE.
For each approved item the committee discussed follow‑up steps and timelines; administration will provide budget and procurement breakdowns and return with more detailed funding allocations where requested.
