The Nacogdoches City Council approved a change order March 5 to have Renault Roofing and Sheet Metal rerroof portions of the police department, officials said.
Police Chief Williams described extensive leaks and recent heavy-rain damage in staff areas and training rooms. "We had to do that again this morning with that heavy rain," Chief Williams said, showing pictures of damaged roof areas and noting crew had been placing buckets during storms.
Todd Simono, interim finance director, told the council a motion should be made in the form of approving a change order to marry two related reroof projects into a single contract. He noted the prior phase cost roughly $49,998 and that the city will document the funding and correct a budget account number in the ordinance paperwork after the meeting.
A councilmember moved to accept Renault Roofing and Sheet Metal to reroof the police department and include the change order; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Staff said combining the two projects under one change order will avoid separate bids and allow the city to address additional damage discovered during recent rains.
