Ashley Villarreal, executive director of Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful, presented the group's annual report to the City Council on Sept. 17, summarizing community recycling and cleanup efforts and announcing a new citywide cleanup challenge scheduled for Oct. 12.
Villarreal outlined recurring programs: quarterly tech‑cycle events (electronics drop‑off with STS Recycling), an Adopt‑a‑Highway section administered under TxDOT’s program, waterway cleanups (including Bonita Creek), a Christmas light recycling program and a tire recycling day that collected more than 900 tires this year. She said the group purchased a larger trailer over the summer to handle increased donation volumes and described partnerships with local schools and SFA for volunteer support.
Villarreal urged city participation and volunteer help for the upcoming citywide cleanup challenge (roll‑offs will be staged at the SFA Coliseum parking lot) and asked council members to promote the event. The council thanked Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful and encouraged member participation.
