Boys & Girls Club reports record seasonal participation, seeks continued city support

A representative of the Boys & Girls Club presented the organization’s annual report to the City of Nacogdoches council on Sept. 17, highlighting expanded participation and ongoing community partnerships.
The presenter—identified on the agenda as "Mister Davidson"—said the club served 4,001 patrons systemwide and 1,954 children locally across its club facility and 21st Century school sites. He reported 507 children at the Park Street club this past summer and 447 children at 21st Century locations, with an overall summer registration of 945 unduplicated children. The club runs swim programs, lifeguard and CPR training, football and gymnastics programs and operates an aquatic center used by local schools.
Davidson told council the club’s membership fee rose from $75 to $100 for the school year—its first increase in eight years—and that the organization is feeling inflationary pressure; he cited a roughly 67 percent increase in property and liability insurance as one example. The club also noted revenue streams from donations, grants and annual campaigns and said Medicaid provider partnerships can subsidize family costs for some participants.
Council members thanked the presenter and recognized the club’s role in serving youth, especially near Mike Moses Elementary across from the club. No formal funding requests were recorded in the meeting minutes; the presenter said he would be glad to answer further questions and the council expressed appreciation for the club’s work.
