Adam Hopson named Alvin ISD secondary teacher of the year

Adam Hopson, a teacher at Shadow Creek High School, was named Alvin ISD's secondary teacher of the year, and he says forging strong connections with students is central to his approach.
"When kids feel more connected to the school and more connected to the classroom, that they did perform better," Hopson said, opening the interview with a statement about student outcomes. Hopson said he was "a little taken aback and surprised because it's very easy to feel, like you're living in other teachers' shadows because we have so many good teachers." "As you can see, we have really nice hardware that the district has provided," he said, describing the program as more than playing games — it includes creating games, content creation and streaming as potential career paths.
In class, Hopson said he brings economics to life and outside it he supports students through extracurriculars and by celebrating their milestones. "Come graduation, it's only fitting that he's one of the voices calling students' names because for many, he helped them find their own," the segment concluded.
