The Clay County Planning Commission voted to recommend that the Clay County Board of Commissioners rezone a Barnesville property (14566 130th Street South, Parcel ID 02.017.0301) from Agricultural General to Highway Commercial to allow Country Classic Cabinets to expand.
Planning staff said the business began as a home occupation and now has about 31 employees and nearly 20,000 square feet of industrial buildings; the owner intends to move the residence off the parcel before final adoption. Staff recommended approval conditioned on the residence being removed prior to formal adoption by the county board. Karen Lauer, executive director of the Barnesville Economic Development Authority, and a Barnesville Township supervisor voiced support, saying the business brings out‑of‑county revenue and supports the local school district.
Applicant Derek Severson said he purchased the company in 2014, that it has steadily grown, and that he plans to move the house using a home‑mover service. The commission moved and passed a recommendation to the county board that would make the rezoning effective upon removal of the residence.
