Socorro ISD celebrates Class of 2025 at Student Activities Complex

Socorro Independent School District held its 2025 commencement at the Student Activities Complex, where Superintendent James Vasquez congratulated the class of 2025 and district officials certified the graduating candidates.

The ceremony opened with a welcome from El Dorado High School Principal Vanessa Bettencourt and included a JROTC colors presentation, the national anthem performed by Danica Navarrete of the El Dorado choir, and pledges led by Student Council Vice President Maile Pinon. Nancy Torres, principal of Americas High School, introduced Mia Luna, who delivered a benediction.

"We are proud of you. We believe in you," Superintendent James Vasquez told graduates, praising their perseverance and the work of principals, counselors and staff. He thanked the Board of Trustees and district leadership for supporting student achievement.

A district official certified that the graduating candidates "have successfully completed requirements for graduation prescribed by the Board of Trustees, the Socorro Independent School District, and the State of Texas, and are entitled to receive their diplomas." Head counselor Sonia Ugarte Hill read the graduates' names while members of the SISD board and school principals presented diplomas to students from Americas, Eastlake, El Dorado, Options, Montwood, Pebble Hills and Socorro high schools. The ceremony noted there were 21 certified graduates.

Attendees were instructed to remove hats, observe silence during the honors, and to move tassels from the right to the left to signify completion of requirements. The ceremony closed with district remarks and a recess of the graduates.

The ceremony was a formal recognition of student completion of district and state requirements; no board votes or policy decisions were recorded during the event.
