Martinez said the board reviewed progress on its goal to improve reading and writing outcomes across the district. She reported the district’s performance on the I Ready assessment "is comparable to other districts across the country who took the I Ready assessment during the same period," and that trustees identified third‑grade phonics as the top priority to boost those outcomes.
The board also heard about a School Performance Framework that the district is implementing this year. Martinez described the framework as a tool to improve outcomes and highlighted elements the district is tracking as meaningful to families: "academic and extracurricular opportunities, teacher fulfillment, student and family satisfaction, and community partnerships," she said.
Trustees received the district’s annual quality‑seats analysis, which Martinez said shows how campuses are performing academically. "Our goal is to have all of our schools rated a B or higher," she said, framing the analysis as part of the district’s accountability and improvement plans.
On charter renewals, Martinez said officials reviewed the performance of in‑district charter schools that are up for renewal and outlined next steps. "Campuses with preliminary recommendations will hold meetings with their faculty and parents, giving stakeholders an opportunity to provide feedback," Martinez said. She added that the district will present final renewal recommendations "at our December board meeting, at which time the board will take action."

The board did not take formal action on these items during the Oct. 20 meeting; the charter renewal recommendations will return for the board’s consideration in December.
