Superintendent Daniel Smith told Stafford families that transition day for kindergarten, sixth- and ninth-grade students is Aug. 11, the first official day for all students is Aug. 12, and urged families to sign up for ParentVUE, check myRIDE bus routes, review codes of conduct and reestablish routines.
Superintendent Daniel Smith addressed Stafford families with a short set of back-to-school reminders, announcing Aug. 11 as a transition day for kindergarten, sixth- and ninth-grade students and Aug. 12 as the first official day for all grade levels.
"Transition day for our kindergarten, sixth, and ninth grade students is August 11," Smith said, adding that the day is set aside for students entering a new building and ‘‘really allows us to establish routines, expectations, and explore the building calmly." He said, "The next day, August 12, is our first official day for all grade levels."
Smith urged families to sign up for ParentVUE to stay connected to children’s academic progress and to check the myRIDE K–12 app to confirm bus routes. He advised families who drive students to plan for extra travel time during the first weeks because traffic typically increases as routines settle.
He encouraged parents to begin easing children back into school-year routines — particularly consistent bedtimes and morning routines — to ensure students arrive rested. "Starting the first day well rested and prepared makes a world of difference," Smith said.
Smith also asked families to review their school’s code of conduct together so expectations are understood ahead of the year, and reminded families that cell phones should be kept away during the school day.
He closed by inviting families to check open-house schedules to meet teachers and establish primary points of contact. "We are looking forward to seeing you," Smith said. "This is a great opportunity to meet your child's teacher, their primary point of contact throughout the year, and begin building the relationships that will make a difference all year long."
The superintendent thanked families for their partnership and support and said the district looks forward to students returning ready to learn and thrive.
