Committee proposes 'Deer Creek Bolt' as new Deer Creek High School mascot

Justin Kelly, speaking for the school committee, presented a proposed mascot and logo set for the new Deer Creek High School and asked the board to consider adopting the name "Deer Creek Bolt." Kelly said the committee vetted students and outside stakeholders, showed renderings from vendor BSN, and favored a short, marketable nickname rather than a longer phrase. "We want to be the Deer Creek Bolt," Kelly said, explaining that the bolt theme links to the valley's association with Deer Creek reservoir as a power and water source and that the word "Bolt" is short and easy for cheers and branding.
Kelly displayed suggested colors (navy blue, lake blue, silver/gray and glacier white) and a set of renderings the committee had prepared. Board members thanked the presenter and said they would take the proposal under advisement; no final decision was made at the meeting. Several trustees complimented the renderings and the committee's outreach.
