Board approves new career pathways including Siemens engineering and ARC welding at district technical center
Summary
The board approved course and pathway expansions that will allow students to complete sequences in engineering (Siemens partnership), welding (ARC Lab), manufacturing fundamentals, automotive and other career and technical pathways aligned with York Technical College credentials.
Director of secondary programs Alyssa Cox presented multiple proposed new courses and pathway completions to the board and asked for approval to allow students to complete full sequences in engineering, welding and other CTE areas.
Cox said a partnership with Siemens will allow the district to offer an engineering sequence (Engineering 1–4) as a complete pathway at the Floyd D. Johnson Technology Center. She also described a first field-expert partnership with the ARC Welding Lab of Rock Hill to offer welding 1–4 for credit, and noted multiple pathways aligned with York Technical College that would allow students to earn credentials and hours toward employment.
A motion to approve the course and pathway package was moved, seconded, and approved by voice vote. Administration supplemented the packet with a printed pathways booklet and said the approvals are intended to expand credentialing and career opportunities for students at the district’s technical center.
