Selah High named a Washington School on the Rise; two migrant students earn state honors

District staff announced Selah High School won a Washington School on the Rise award (one of eight statewide). Two migrant students—Bridal Camarillo Mendoza and Margarita Vaca Guevara—were named state award recipients and will be honored in Yakima on Aug. 15; Bridal receives a $1,000 scholarship from CMAR Community Health Center.
District staff reported that Selah High School was recognized with a Washington School on the Rise award, one of eight high schools statewide to receive the honor for demonstrated student engagement, joint leadership and elevated student voice.
Staff also announced two migrant-student recognitions: Bridal Camarillo Mendoza was selected as the state’s migrant student of the year and will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the CMAR Community Health Center; Margarita Vaca Guevara received the Power of Community Perseverance award. Both students will be recognized at the state migrant convention in Yakima on Aug. 15.
A district official said the awards carry no direct monetary value for the school but recognize sustained efforts to involve students in leadership and co-design work with staff and community partners.
