Moses Lake School District superintendent details $11.2 million levy proposal, estimated $1.50 per $1,000

Carol Lewis, superintendent of Moses Lake School District, said the district's proposed levy would collect $11,200,000 in 2026 at an estimated rate of $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed value and that all levy funds would be directed to programs that support students.

Lewis emphasized the levy totals shown on the district chart are fixed caps: "the amounts listed on the screen there can never be exceeded," she said, adding that increases in property values would lower the rate per $1,000 that each household pays even though the district's capped total would not change. Lewis explained the year the district first collects levy money can span two school years: the 2026 collection would cover part of the 2025-26 school year and the full 2026-27 school year, with roughly twice as much expected in the first full collection year.

On how the money would be used, Lewis said, "All of the money goes to programs that directly impact students." She listed the planned spending categories as technology for students; safety, security and health staff; materials and supplies that support learning; maintenance and custodial work to keep schools safe and clean; athletics and activities; and academic support and enrichment, which she described as the largest item because the district's primary purpose is student learning.

Lewis encouraged community members with questions to submit them via the QR code shown with the presentation; district staff will respond, she said. The levy question will appear on the ballot for voters to decide; Lewis did not specify a ballot date in this presentation.
