The Rockingham County School Board approved two procurement items during its July 8 meeting: a construction contract to replace gym bleachers and FY25 contracts for speech-language pathology services.
Steve Reed, director of maintenance, described the advertised bid process for replacement of Turner Ashby High School gym bleachers. The district solicited bids from five firms and received two responses; staff recommended the low bidder, JH Pens Company, in the amount of $323,617. Dr. Oliver recommended awarding the contract; the board approved the award by voice vote (recorded as 5-0).
On a separate procurement item, staff recommended awarding contracts for speech and language pathology services for FY25 to the two highest-rated responders, Timber Ridge Speech Services and Valley Speech and Literacy. The board moved to follow the assistant superintendent’s recommendation; the motion passed by voice vote (recorded as 5-0). A board member asked for the scoring sheet and staff confirmed it would be provided.
Board members asked about the bleacher timeline; staff said work should be complete "before the first of the year" so it would be in place by the spring athletics season. Steve Reed noted the district has worked with the vendor on other projects.
The clerk will reflect the awards in procurement records and procurement staff will provide scoring documentation on the speech-services selection as requested by a board member.
