Facilities staff outline preventive‑maintenance routines, report progress on boilers and playgrounds

Mr. Whitaker, facilities staff, told the Building & Grounds Committee on Oct. 13 that several capital and maintenance projects are progressing and described the district’s preventive‑maintenance program.
Highlights included Apple Pie Playground being roughly 85% complete and the Bass Hoover water‑heater project currently in demolition. The Apple Pie boiler is complete pending startup and the Stonewall boiler had a startup this afternoon; the Bass River chiller is scheduled for Dec. 1.
Whitaker summarized preventive‑maintenance practices: third‑party annual inspections for fire‑alarm systems, monthly chemical analysis and treatment of water loops, quarterly replacement of HVAC filters and third‑party spring startup and mid‑season PM services for chillers. On kitchen hoods he said, "we do a third party biannual inspection on those. They get checked twice a year," and noted site staff clean grease traps and filters between inspections.
A committee member asked whether each facility has an individual written PM schedule; Whitaker said schedules vary by building and staff will develop standard written schedules for equipment tracking and accountability.
