South Whidbey board approves PSE and SEIU collective-bargaining agreements

The South Whidbey School Board approved collective-bargaining agreements with two represented employee groups. Superintendent Dr. Moshe said the district ‘‘were able to successfully negotiate together for collective bargaining agreements with both PSE and SEIU’’ and that both agreements have been ratified by the unions and were brought to the board for consideration within the parameters previously set by district leadership.
Why it matters: Ratified contracts define compensation, working conditions and the district’s obligations to represented staff for the coming term. Board approval places the agreements on the district record and authorizes implementation consistent with negotiated terms.
Board members thanked negotiating teams and recognized the importance of collaboration in reaching agreement. The board approved memorandum 23-24-61 by voice vote.
The meeting then moved to other items, including approval of an electric school bus purchase.
