Resident urges board to move bus stop after safety concerns in Big Bend

Randy Middleton, a resident who said he cares for grandchildren in the neighborhood, asked the Mukwonago School District board to change a bus stop location on Chateau Lane in Big Bend, arguing the current site lacks sidewalks and forces children to wait at the edge of a ditch.
“This is not an issue of the distance the children have to walk,” Middleton said, adding that two kindergarten students currently wait at his driveway and that winter snow leaves no safe standing area at the posted stop. He told the board he submitted an e-form and was told the bus company would not move the stop but directed him to appeal the company’s decision at the board meeting.
The board did not take immediate action during public comment; the district indicated earlier in the meeting that transportation policies and service contracts are governed by district procedures and statute and that staff can follow up on specific routing and stop requests at a subsequent meeting.
