Board approves $80,000 stadium sponsorship from new employer in Jefferson

The Jefferson School District Board on Aug. 26 approved a sponsorship agreement with a new nearby employer to name the Jefferson High School stadium field and provide funding for athletic programs.
Athletic director Mark Peterson said the company (identified in meeting materials as Kikoman) agreed to a 10-year, $80,000 deal billed as $8,000 per year. Peterson said the funds will be deposited into the district—s stadium fund and used to support athletic programs districtwide, supplement equipment and facility needs and assist programs that lack other fundraising resources.
Board members asked how the money would be distributed among teams and whether facilities or scoreboard changes are configurable if a future sponsor does not renew. Peterson said the district maintains a stadium fund and will work with business services to provide a report on distribution; he said scoreboard or sign replacement would be handled at sponsor or future-sponsor cost if changes are needed.
After discussion and a motion, the board approved the sponsorship agreement by voice vote.
Board members requested follow-up reporting on how sponsorship funds are allocated to ensure equitable support for boys— and girls— programs and compliance with Title IX considerations.
