Board hears summer school report; approves early college applications and high school course changes

The Jefferson School District received a summer school report and approved two separate agenda actions: spring 2025 early college credit applications and Jefferson High School course proposals for the 2025–26 year.
Summer school: Mr. Laymon summarized the district’s summer programming amid construction and staffing constraints. He said staff created new offerings (chess, comic-book, cooking, outdoor activities), managed space challenges during building work and ran larger-than-usual class sizes; summer enrollment remained in the 700s and the program reported multiple course-credit completions that keep high-school students on track toward graduation. Laymon gave sample figures: 22 students enrolled in certain ELA classes with mixed completion rates, about 16 students earned a half credit in geometry or algebra, and alt-ed programming enrolled 37 students with roughly 18 full credits earned. He also said fewer than 10 students were turned away in the second session due to late enrollments and staffing limits.
Approvals: The board approved the spring 2025 early college (Start College Now) applications as presented, with the caveat that anatomy and physiology is already offered at Jefferson High and thus excluded from district-paid approvals. The board also approved Jefferson High School course-proposal changes for 2025–26 on their second reading.
The administration said it will follow up with details for families and return with any further implementation information requested by board members.
