The board reviewed proposed additions to the referendum scope to use contingency funds for building finishes, including replacing flooring in the J corridor and updating classroom G115.
Director presented two options for the J corridor: luxury vinyl tile at $26,017 or an epoxy floor at $30,029 that would match the new STEAM addition. He also presented a $34,600 package to replace the ceiling, lighting, paint, flooring and casework in classroom G115. "If we can get approval tonight, we can incorporate it with the work coming this summer," Director said, noting a contingency balance of about $780,153.
Board members discussed durability, cleaning procedures (some districts use different scrubber heads), and asbestos abatement in adjacent areas. Several members asked for additional vendor quotes and square-footage comparisons. Committee member recommended obtaining competitive quotes and a staff recommendation about the best product for janitorial needs.
The board elected to table immediate approval of the flooring until staff provides further quotes and a written recommendation on product selection and overall costs prior to the next contracting phase.
Next steps: staff to provide comparative quotes, janitorial suitability recommendation and a final inclusion proposal for the next agenda.
