District says stadium, elementary and performing arts work moving forward; volunteers needed for playgrounds

At the elementary school the presenter reported classroom finishes — carpeting, ceilings and painting — are complete. Staff will start placing teachers’ materials back in classrooms on Aug. 12, and new playground equipment installation will begin the same day with volunteer days planned to move wood chips into play areas. The presenter estimated the volunteer approach will save the referendum roughly $10,000.
The superintendent later reiterated that bids on the performing arts center rebid came in much lower than an earlier round that had been about $2 million over budget; he described recent bidding as “much better news” and said work is moving quickly.
Board members and staff encouraged community volunteers for the playground work and said more information will be supplied in the coming weeks.
