The River Valley Board of Education approved routine business items and a package of policy updates at its regular meeting.
On the consent agenda, trustees approved checks and invoices for November 2024 and previous meeting minutes. The board also approved biannual safety drill reports for each building. The policy committee presented several second-reading recommendations that the board approved, including promotion/retention policy 345.3 (no change), student immunization updates (452.2), renaming and rewriting of the online learning contract (former 341.3) to reflect use of the Rural Virtual Academy, and updates to graduation requirements that will require a civics class for the graduating class of 2027.
The board approved a first reading of policy 470.1 (user fees), renamed from co-curricular fees; trustees discussed possible future adjustments to club and athletic fees but made no final fee changes at first reading. The buildings and grounds committee reported approving a 2025 agricultural land lease to J and J Ranch LLC (Jason Sprecher), and the board approved that lease.
Trustees also approved the 2023-24 audit report, accepted language changes to the employee handbook to reference FLSA rules rather than reiterate detailed text, and accepted several donations and in-kind gifts. Administrators reported Project Lunchbox raised $10,194.40 in November for families facing food insecurity and listed contributing individuals and groups; the board approved acceptance of those gifts by roll call.
Several motions were carried by voice vote; the donations and some personnel-related actions were approved by roll call where indicated. The meeting concluded with a motion to move to closed session under state statutory authority for personnel matters.
