Board takes first reading of wide-ranging NEOLA policy updates including Title IX and EDGAR

Pendleton County Schools presented a first reading of an extensive package of policy updates on Feb. 4 aimed at aligning the district policy manual with recent state legislation and federal grant requirements.
Superintendent and administrative staff explained that the update packet (Volume 16 No. 2) contains roughly 61 policy changes and includes three principal groups: the NEOLA-supplied policy revisions, updates tied to recent state legislation (notably House Bill 55-14, which affects board orientation and training), and federal-oriented updates including EDGAR requirements for federal grants and a 21-page Title IX policy revision. Staff said Title IX language was vetted by legal counsel and that the policy replaces earlier language and updates contact/coordination responsibilities.
Administrators recommended the package for first reading; the board approved that motion and scheduled a second reading and potential final adoption for the March 4 meeting. Staff said more detailed handouts and board-docs access are available for board members and the public to review specific policy text prior to final action.
No substantive changes were adopted tonight beyond approval to move the packet forward for public review and a second reading. Board members were encouraged to submit questions and requested paper copies as needed for review.
