MPO opens 10-day public comment to add $345,000 active-transportation grant to program

The Eagle Pass Metropolitan Planning Organization voted at a special meeting on Feb. 25 to open a 10-day public review and comment period to amend its interim program of projects and add a newly awarded $345,000 active transportation plan grant.
Pascio, the MPO’s FPO director, told the board the public comment window is “part of the process to open up a 10 day window, letting the public know about these, as part of the transparency requirements, for the utilization of federal funds.” Pascio said the grant was awarded to the NPL for an active transportation plan, and staff expect a similar addition for a city shared-use path grant in an upcoming meeting because those projects are federally funded or partially federally funded.
Board members were shown lists of current highway projects (including Loop 480 and maintenance work) and transit projects in the STIP that staff said the amendment will supplement. Pascio described the amendment as a technical compliance step to ensure federally funded projects are included on the MPO’s adopted project list and in the statewide program.
Commissioner Ivan Ramos moved to open the 10-day public comment period; the motion was seconded and the chair recorded the vote in favor, declaring the motion passed and noting the vote as unanimous on the record.
The board solicited public comment and staff reported there were no members of the public present who wished to speak. The amendment will proceed to the posted public comment period; staff indicated they will return with any additional federally funded projects (such as the shared-use path) in future meetings for the same process.
