Cultural Arts Commission outlines sold‑out holiday run, spring classes and plans to convert gym to theater

The Cultural Arts Commission reported Jan. 22 that recent programming drew new audiences and that staff are planning expanded offerings and facility changes.

Cultural Arts staff said the holiday production 'Scrooge' sold out three of six nights and that total ticket sales for the production reached 1,373. The commission heard that about 75% of those who attended were new customers since the city began using the ticketing platform Ticket Spice. Staff described new Dine & Discover nights tied to performances and a March staging of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) as the first spring offering; auditions and further dates were discussed for summer and fall productions.

Staff described current gallery exhibitions by Joshua Neuth (portraiture) and Annie Campbell (abstract landscapes), with a closing reception planned for April 25 and a portrait class on Feb. 8. The cultural arts lead said several exhibitions and public programs aim to broaden reach and encourage volunteer involvement.

Commissioners asked about combined ticketing and season‑ticket packages and were told staff are exploring technology and logistics to offer package tickets with Stroll and other City events. Staff also noted plans to formalize a theater in a space formerly used as a gym and said they will coordinate with city leadership on physical changes and seating improvements.

Staff asked commissioners to share ideas for cross‑promotion; the commission welcomed the proposals and asked for updates as plans firm up.
