OCVB hears updates on veterans museum expansion, CarShield Field events and spring festivals

Naina D'Angelo, executive director of the Mid America Veterans Museum, said the museum is conducting a feasibility study with a St. Louis firm (Holmes, Reynolds) to assess community support and potential fundraising for a new building in O'Fallon; she said the study will conclude in May. "It costs us roughly a $160,000 to $165,000 a year to run that museum," D'Angelo said, and she added that the museum had been asked to house the Missouri State veteran history project previously managed through UMSL.
David Schmoe gave an events update for CarShield Field and the O'Fallon Hoots, previewing the Battle of the Badges (April 19), the American Midwest Conference tournament (April 29–May 3), $2 Tuesday promotional pricing to keep games affordable, a June hootenanny event and a Tacos & Tequila concert festival with named headliners. He encouraged sponsorships, host-family participation for visiting players and noted expectations for larger crowds than last season.
Tourism staff also reviewed festival planning: Whiskers & Wags (May 3, Civic Park) will feature agility demonstrations and 11 nonprofit adoption groups; the Jamming Summer concert series opens May 27; Heritage & Freedom Fest is planning Neon Trees as the headliner pending final agreement, and parade applications open April 7.
Board members thanked presenters and asked follow-up questions about feasibility, space needs and community partnerships. No formal board action was taken on these informational items.
