North Ridgeville City Schools board approves human-resources slate and tentative teachers’ agreement

The North Ridgeville City Schools Board of Education approved a slate of human-resources items and adopted a resolution implementing a tentative agreement with the district teachers’ association during its Aug. 6 meeting.
Mr. Hanks presented the human-resources report and moved to approve the items in one reading. “I move to approve the human resources items in 1 reading,” he said. The human-resources package included multiple staff resignations and appointments, supplemental and substitute contracts, an NRDA supplemental contract, and a resolution adopting a tentative agreement with the (transcript: "Northridgeville") Education Association with effective dates 07/01/2024 through 06/30/2027.
The motion was seconded and taken by roll call. When called, members recorded affirmative votes: Missus McCarthy (yes), Mister Haynes (yes), Mister Grigsby (yes), Missus Saxon (yes), and the final recorded yes for the group called (transcript responses recorded in roll call). The board recorded the motion as approved by the members present.
After the vote, the board introduced two new hires. Lindsey Baxter was welcomed as a school psychologist with experience in charter schools and counseling and noted as a Cleveland State graduate. Deanna Decker was introduced as the district’s newest third- and fourth-grade music teacher; she was described as having spent the prior three years teaching elementary music in southern Ohio and recently relocated to the area.
Other agenda items: under the education report the board listed first readings for agreements with Suburban Health Consortium, Murray Ridge Center, Belfair and Applewood Centers; those items were scheduled for a second reading and consideration for approval at the Aug. 20 regular meeting.
Public follow-up: a resident, Ben Straka, raised questions during public comment about rumors involving an organization called Lifewise and about whether the district would change busing distance standards (asking whether the district would revert to a 1-mile rule or remain at 2 miles). The board said staff would have the appropriate personnel follow up with the resident.
The meeting proceeded with standard procedural items and adjourned after the recorded business was completed. No dollar amounts tied to the tentative agreement or staffing changes were stated during the presentation.
