Savannah River National Laboratory held the Global Security Directorate’s first expo to promote cross-mission collaboration and highlight capabilities in nonproliferation, trace analysis, mobile nuclear material processing, radiochemical separations and cybersecurity assurance.
Savannah River National Laboratory held the Global Security Directorate’s first expo to showcase the lab’s nonproliferation and security capabilities, a presenter for the laboratory said.
The presenter described SRNL as a U.S. Department of Energy applied research and development laboratory and listed the Global Security Directorate’s capabilities in areas including nonproliferation technologies, trace analysis, mobile nuclear material processing, high‑level radiochemical separations, actinide work, FBI radiological evidence examination facilities and special nuclear material packaging that supports the National Nuclear Security Administration.
A staff member with the Global Security Directorate said the directorate “supports largely the National Nuclear Security Administration through their defense nuclear nonproliferation programs” and that its work aims to strengthen U.S. security by minimizing the use of nuclear materials, recovering those materials and making them less accessible for terrorism or other nefarious purposes. The staff member added, “I’m really excited about this expo.”
Organizers described the event as an opportunity to promote cross‑mission collaboration between SRNL’s divergent research portfolios and to expose the directorate’s capabilities beyond the sponsors they typically serve. The presenter said the expo is intended to bring together nuclear nonproliferation futures research with emerging technology capabilities and cybersecurity assurance.
For more information, the presenter directed listeners to srnl.gov and to Savannah River National Laboratory’s social media channels.
The presentation served as a public outreach announcement about the Global Security Directorate’s capabilities and the inaugural expo; no motions, votes or formal actions were recorded during the remarks.
