Richland 1 spotlights staff honors for 2024–25 school year
Summary
During the July 22 meeting the board recognized four district employees for state, regional and national awards, including an NCWIT computing educator awardee, the South Carolina CTE administrator of the year, an elementary principal of the year awardee and a teacher‑educator award recipient.
The Richland 1 board used its school board spotlight to recognize district employees who received major honors during the 2024–25 school year.
Commissioner Bishop introduced honorees including Allison Shareraro, a Drew High School teacher named the 2025 NCWIT Aspiration in Computing Educator for South Carolina for her work encouraging underrepresented students in AP computer science; Chris Dinkins, named the 2025 CTE administrator of the year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators; David Copeland Jr., principal at Logan Elementary School, named 2025 elementary principal of the year by the South Carolina Alliance of Black School Educators; and Alvin Allen, academic integration specialist, named 2025 Teacher Educator of the Year by the South Carolina Association for Career and Technical Education.
Commissioner Bishop invited the honorees and their principals or department heads to come forward for photos and asked the board and public to join in congratulating them. "Please join me in congratulating all of our honorees this evening," Bishop said.
What happens next: The board recognized these staff publicly and photos were to be taken as part of the board spotlight. The recognitions were recorded in the meeting minutes and will be noted on district communications channels.
