Richland 1 welcomes new superintendent; Walker outlines 90‑day review and Vision 2030 timeline

He announced a public 90‑day report event scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 7 at C. A. Johnson High School. The event will include a roughly 30‑minute presentation in the auditorium followed by a meet‑and‑greet in the lobby; Dr. Walker said it will run from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and that details will be posted on the district website and social media.
Dr. Walker said the 90‑day assessment will examine the district’s operational, instructional and financial systems and that "the information and data collected over these 90 days will become the pillars for a comprehensive and detailed vision" for the district. He told the board he will submit a written report at the conclusion of that review and present a draft "Richland 1 Vision 2030" at 120 days.
Chair Lomenek and several commissioners expressed public support for the superintendent. "He is impressive," Lomenek said, noting the unanimous vote that placed Dr. Walker in the role and the swift outreach the superintendent has made to district staff.
Details the superintendent announced for families include teacher return and student start dates (teachers Aug. 4; students Aug. 11), registration assistance sessions July 29–30 and an R1 Champs volunteer training on July 29. He also noted the nomination deadline for the 2026 Richland 1 Hall of Fame is Friday, Aug. 8.
