Brooke High FBLA chapter honored as state chapter of the year; 170 members recognized

The Brooke County Schools board honored Brooke High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter on Mar. 24, recognizing the group as the West Virginia FBLA chapter of the year and noting it is the largest FBLA club in the state with 170 active members.
Board members turned the meeting to a presentation by the FBLA representative (S3), who described months of recruitment and preparation that sent 35 students to state competition, where 33 placed. "It was months and months of work, and it really paid off," the presenter said, noting intensive after-hours review and fundraising work, including students running concession stands to raise club funds.
The presenter highlighted community-service projects that contributed to one of the chapter awards: a Super Bowl food drive and a "Hoops for Soups" campaign that collected more than 600 cans for local assistance programs and included collaboration with nearby schools and businesses. "We just did it because Kenny B's had this great idea," the presenter said, describing a partnership that extended to other chapters.
Board members praised advisers and students and then read an extensive list of individual award winners across events including accounting, data analysis, marketing and event planning. The board invited parents to take group photos and gave students a round of applause.
The recognition took place during the board’s regular agenda and was followed by routine business; no formal policy action was taken during the awards portion.
The board will hold a special session April 15 and the next regular meeting April 28, where routine items related to school performance and programs may be further discussed.
