Committee hears progress on EV transition study and energy assessments for Skyline, police HQ

City staff updated the committee on two operational initiatives: energy assessments for high‑use municipal buildings and an electric vehicle (EV) transition study. David (staff member) said assessments for Skyline Center and the police headquarters were completed using a Duke-affiliated program and that consultants had received three years of utility data to prepare final reports. "They're hoping to get us a report, probably, you know, February, May maybe early March," David said.
On the fleet EV transition, David said the consultant team has completed tasks 1 and 2 and provided a draft of task 3, which maps city facilities and the anticipated number of EVs to be deployed at each site. Task 4 will estimate the charging infrastructure needed at those sites and associated costs, with a final report (task 5) planned for later in the February–March timeframe. "They're still looking at February, March kind of time frame for winding up the study," David said.
Committee members requested that consultants be invited to present prioritization and 'bang for buck' recommendations to the committee and discussed whether the assessments could inform near‑term capital planning. David said he would ask the consultants about a presentation and keep the group posted as the reports become available.
No formal decisions were recorded; the update concluded with a request for staff to share draft reports and to schedule presentations as needed.
