Board introduces draft Policy IJ to consolidate instructional-materials rules and seeks community feedback

At the Oct. 15 special meeting the board reviewed a draft of Policy IJ, which the superintendent described as an effort to consolidate existing policy on instructional materials and library resources and to align district practice with Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB) recommendations.
"Policy IJ is being introduced, as a way to consolidate and focus our adoption of materials, as well as our reconsideration of instructional materials and library resources," Superintendent Gahl said. He added that the policy condenses three district policies into one and that the district will develop subsequent regulations if the board adopts the policy.
Director Jorgensen brought the draft and worked collaboratively with Director Heffley on the text, the chair said. The chair encouraged community members who were not present for the earlier work session to review that discussion for greater detail and invited public feedback by email or public comment before the item returns as a final action item.
No final adoption occurred at the special meeting; the draft was discussed as a nonaction item, with next steps to return the policy to the board later in the approval process.
