At its Sept. 24 meeting the Greater Clark County School Board approved routine business items including the consent agenda, supplemental payments for specified teacher duties, and renewals of the district's health, dental and vision insurance plans.
The finance and human-resources staff described minimal increases for 2025 coverage: health insurance renewal with Anthem was presented with a 1% increase (noted as 57¢ per-pay for single coverage and $2.85 per-pay for family coverage) and was approved, dental renewal with Anthem was approved with a 2.5% increase (per-pay impact described in the presentation), and vision coverage with Anthem was approved with an estimated 3% increase (per-pay change range described). "This year, we were able to do just a 1% increase, so we're very happy about that," the benefits presenter said.
The board also approved supplemental pay for listed teacher duties (after discussion with the Pierce DCEA), a field trip for high-ability students to the Frazier History Museum with a $1,200 honorarium for Matt Brown of the Louisville Folk School, and memoranda of understanding to allow Fort Hays State University preservice students into district schools and to pilot the Startup Foundation's Innovation Educator Fellowship funded from school funds.
How they voted: Each item was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote; the transcript records "aye" votes and approvals but does not provide roll-call tallies.
Why it matters: The insurance renewals and supplemental-pay approvals affect district employees' compensation and benefits; the MOUs expand partnerships for teacher training and professional development. The $1,200 honorarium for the visiting presenter is a specific budgeted expenditure approved by the board.
