CIC hears demolition update; appraiser to review $2.1 million valuation

Board leaders updated the Saint Bernard Community Improvement Corporation on demolition progress at the site of the former First State Bank and the old Skyline area and discussed related tax-appraisal work at the May 27 meeting.
The president reported that site crews working near the old First State Bank found dense, layered concrete in the area between the Skyline building and Crosley that contractors said did not appear to belong to the target structure. That contractor reported additional removal could amount to about $10,000–$12,000. The secretary said they would inspect, obtain photos and ask the contractor to justify the charge before accepting additional costs.
On tax matters, Meredith Hughes described plans to hire an appraiser to contest the 2024 valuation, which the auditor listed at $2,100,000. Meredith said the appraiser was scheduled to visit and that the appeal aims to establish that the property’s building value was overstated; once demolition is complete, she said she would contact the county to update records to reflect no improvement on the parcel.
“No appraisal question — it’s just administrative,” Meredith said, describing the follow-up with the county when demolition is complete.
Board members did not take a formal vote on contractor charges or the appraisal during the open meeting; the secretary said staff would follow up with contractor documentation and the board would revisit any disputed charges.
