Mayor delivered a remembrance for former mayor Charlie von der Meulen, announced ceremonial swearing-in for two new police officers on Oct. 13 and described a new village mass notification system that will require residents to create accounts.
Mayor Jonathan Stujel opened the administrative reports with a remembrance for former mayor Charlie von der Meulen, who the mayor said died Sept. 23 at age 87 and who served the village in multiple roles.
"He was a true gentleman and will be truly missed for the person that he was," the mayor said, and thanked residents and emergency personnel for participating in tribute activities.
The mayor announced that two recent police academy graduates, Jared Thatcher and William Tuttle, will be sworn in on Monday, Oct. 13; a ceremonial swearing-in during a council meeting will be scheduled in the near future. He also said the village is seeking a resident to fill an open CIC board seat and invited interested residents to attend the Oct. 28 meeting to make a pitch.
The mayor described a new Village of Saint Bernard mass notification system that will replace the current Call Command system. The new system will support email, voice and text notifications and will require residents to create new accounts on the village resident portal; the mayor said the system will allow geo-based notifications when addresses are provided. Links will be posted on the village website, Facebook page and in the village newsletter.
