City staff secures Port of Seattle grant to boost parks events; advisory group plans summer programs

City staff told the advisory board he secured a Port of Seattle economic development grant that increased the parks events budget and can be used for advertising and outreach.
"I have a Port of Seattle economic development grant that I got that basically doubled my events budget," Corey said, adding that the money will help promote events such as yoga in the park, 5Ks and Battle of the Bands.
Members discussed the logistics of summer programming and outreach, including whether the advisory group should host a table at community events and how to coordinate volunteers. On yoga in the park, members said insurance requirements have been a recurring barrier; staff will research whether day-specific insurance or studio coverage would satisfy city requirements and report back at the next meeting.
The board tentatively scheduled outreach and rotation of short park-spotlight articles for city e-news and partner publications, and several members volunteered to prepare short copy and photos for a seasonal events calendar.
